Football Turf Laying Guide
1. Sub-base preparation
1-2 days before the arrival of the synthetic turf for the soccer field, wash the site with water. After the site is completely dry, check for any standing water and correct or fill in any uneven areas. Once the base meets the requirements and specifications for installing the synthetic turf, transport the turf to the site.
2. Line Marking
According to the design plan, perform measurements and marking. Locate the center point of the field and the centers of the two semicircles. Mark the intersections of the centerline, boundary lines, and various functional lines using chalk or paint lines. Modify any inappropriate markings immediately, with a permissible error of 5mm.
3. Turf Layout
Carry the turf into the field and unfold it along the width direction. Position the turf with white lines on the designated functional lines as much as possible, and lay out the remaining turf accordingly.
4. Trimming
Trim the white turf sections outside the centerline and boundary lines to the required width for field marking. Set them aside for later use.
5. Overlapping
The turf sections should overlap by 3-8mm. Use a turf cutter to make a central cut at the overlapping point, ensuring that both sides of the turf overlap tightly. Then trim the excess with a carpet knife, ensuring that the seam does not exceed 3mm.
6. Jointing tape
Flip up the bottom of the turf at the seam, with each side flipped up to a width of approximately 30cm. Then lay a 20cm-wide jointing tape along the center of the turf seam.
7. Gluing
Apply specialized glue to the bottom of the turf seam and the jointing tape. Use a brush to apply glue to the turf seam, with a width of 6cm. Ensure that the glue is evenly spread with a glue applicator and avoid excessive application, as it may cause bubbling or detachment. For the base cloth, use a glue applicator to strictly control the thickness of the glue and apply it to both sides of the adhesive surfaces.
For the jointing tape, evenly apply adhesive with a rubber scraper. Brush the glue in the same direction to facilitate air expulsion, improve evenness, and enhance adhesion. After gluing, allow sufficient time for solvent evaporation to prevent sticky or bubbling adhesive. The drying time should not be excessively long, typically within 10-30 minutes after gluing when the adhesive is about 80-90% dry and no longer sticky to the touch.
8. Bonding
Before bonding, ensure that the bottom surface of the turf, non-woven fabric, and interface cloth are clean and dry. The construction should preferably take place at a temperature above 5°C and avoid rainy or damp weather, as it may result in prolonged bonding time or poor adhesion. During bonding, align and firmly press the bonded objects without any back and forth movement.
9. Compaction
During bonding, align both sides of the turf and bond them to the jointing tape in one go. Use a specialized rubber hammer to tap and compact the jointed sections tightly. If the turf or jointing tape is damp, allow them to dry. The curing time is generally three days, and the final strength is typically tested after ten days. During the curing period, proper maintenance is required to avoid exposure to direct sunlight, water immersion, and movement, ensuring the best bonding condition.
10. Functional lines
After the basic turf installation is completed, reposition the lines for various functionalities and points. Use a carpet knife to cut along the lines, remove the cut turf strips, insert the jointing tape, apply glue, and embed the pre-prepared white grass lines.
11. Sand infill
Use a spreader machine for the sand infill process. The quartz sand used should have a roundness of at least 80% and a diameter of 0.2 to 1.5mm. Mark the entire field according to a 1m by 1m grid. The sand infill should be done in multiple stages, distributing the sand according to the designed quantity. After each round of spreading, use professional grooming equipment to repeatedly groom the turf, ensuring the sand fully fills the turf and compacts it. Any impurities discovered during the process should be immediately removed to ensure quality. Check the evenness and adequacy of the sand infill, and fill any deficient areas as needed. Spread the quartz sand evenly in the designated areas, based on the specified sand quantity per kilogram per square meter, according to different turf heights. Use a brushing machine to evenly distribute the sand and raise the grass fibers, then groom the turf in both vertical and horizontal directions.
12. Rubber granule infill
Mark the entire field according to a 4m by 4m grid. Based on the specified quantity of rubber granules per kilogram per square meter, evenly spread the rubber granules in the designated areas. Use a brushing machine to evenly distribute the granules and raise the grass fibers, then groom the turf in both vertical and horizontal directions.
13. Inspection and Acceptance
After the work is completed, conduct an inspection and cleaning of the synthetic turf surface according to the quality requirements. Perform a final acceptance check to ensure that the construction meets the specified standards.
