Business Success Thursday Volume 180! Why put culture first?

Here is another extract from our upcoming book, The Premier Way!…

I hope you enjoy this resource and receive some value for you and your business!

The more we can help all help each other, the more we can do to help grow the NZ economy and therefore provide more jobs/ feed more mouths/ help more people achieve their life goals.

NZ has the potential to be the best place on earth to live, work, play, raise a family etc yet sadly we are way down the list in so many important areas.

A big part of our Mission is to deliver happiness by helping and inspiring as many Kiwis as we can so we can help lift NZ up the rankings!

So, why put culture first?

There are many compelling reasons to put culture first in your business!

Here are just a few:

It is the right thing to do!

Putting the happiness of your people first gives you a major buzz and thrill every day.

It gives you purpose! It makes you feel good.

It makes you feel more purposeful, more inspired, happier, more engaged, more motivated!

Happy people are a lot more fun to work with, it makes work fun!

Even typically mundane and process type work becomes fun when you are surrounded by happy people in a vibrant work environment.

Who enjoys working with unhappy, grumpy people? The answer is: No one!

Working with people who are smiling, laughing and enjoying a culture first atmosphere is so inspiring, motivating and stimulating!

If you put culture first, everything else will follow!

Quality, service, innovation, productivity, continuous improvement, health and safety, happy customers, sales, profits, staff retention etc! All these things will keep improving if you put culture first.

All of these are vital aspects in business but the traditional business approach is that we try to improve all these metrics either one at a time or all at once.

But if we don’t first get the culture right, then we will always struggle.

You can make short term gains in all these areas but if you are unable to build a happy, positive and engaged culture/ team, you will really struggle to maintain any short term improvements and you will struggle even harder to sustain on going day by day improvements in all these areas.

The beauty of “culture first/ the culture first mentality/ philosophy is that it removes a lot of the struggles and barriers to growth, change and continuous improvement that most businesses face.

I would estimate that 99% of the worlds businesses (maybe more) are profit lead, not purpose lead.

Herein lies the big secret to unlocking the tremendous potential that is lying dormant in your business.

However it requires a major mindset shift to go from profit lead to purpose lead and few are those who manage to truly make this transition for the medium to long term.

It means letting go of many traditional business ideas and the slaying of many sacred cows.

So many business owners/ founders really struggle with ideas such as total financial transparency and a daily obsession with growing people etc let alone actually putting them into practice.

For example, it can be a very uncomfortable experience to share the true numbers for the first time or getting your team involved in strategic decisions or even admitting that you are wrong on a daily basis!

As you read through this book you will find many ways to overcome these fears and to get started on your own culture first journey!

Are you inspired to put culture first in your business?

How much latent potential is there in your team?

Imagine working in a fun, positive, uplifting, energetic environment every day!

This is actually a reality for us here at PGNZ and it all started with us realising that there is a much better way to run and grow a business!

Join us on our journey, as we build a fun, lean culture where everybody is treated like an owner, trained like and owner and are encouraged and helped to become the best version of themselves!
